To manage user account, you have to logon as "system" user or domain administrator. Domain Administrator can manage user account by clicking "Options -> Domain Administration -> User Management".
EmailArchitect Email Server supports 2 types of user account:
User
User has real mailbox on the server. You can use this account to logon EmailArchitect Email Server to send/receive emails.
User Alias
Local domain also supports user alias. User alias doesn't have real mailbox on the server. Instead, it is an email list. You can't use alias to logon EmailArchitect Email Server. Every email to this user alias will be forwarded to every email addresses in this alias. For company, the administrator can create user alias for every department, and add all the email addresses of the department’s staffs to this alias. Other people can send email to this alias to deliver the message to every staff mailbox in this department instead of send email one by one.
User alias can also act as a newsletter (mailing list). For more detail, please refer to LIST Service
Delete User/Alias
Caution: Once user account or alias is deleted, all configuration files and user folders can't be restored. If you want to disable current user/alias temporarily, you can uncheck "Active" in user/ alias setting.
Simulate User Logon
In EmailArchitect Web Administration, the "Simulate User Logon" feature is very useful to administrator to check the issue in user mailbox. It is very similar with the command "su" in unix/linux. That means the administrator can logon the user mailbox without the user's password. By default, this feature is enabled for the privacy reason. However, the server administrator can disable this feature like this:
Go to domain general setting and check "Domain administrator cannot view user mailbox."
Import bulk users from database or text file
Please refer to Tools - Scripting Utilities.
Register email address by user just like hotmail or yahoo mail.
Basically, only system or domain administrator can add user/ alias. But you can use Server SDK to write an ASP page for user registration. We provide a sample in webaccess\additonal. If you find it difficult, you may send email to support@emailarchitect.net for assistance.
